My favorite free RPG

While I adore Pathfinder for a lot of things, I think my current favorite is a bit older. Recently Atlas Games made the system behind Over the Edge game available under the OGL. After the development of Ars Magica, the team sort of drifted apart and started working on other projects. While some of the team went on to create Vampire the Masquerade, Johnathan Tweet created Over the Edge, a somewhat wacky game about an imaginary island in the Mediterranean. The system itself was set up to create a wide array of character types with a minimal set of stats, really amazingly simple and flexible for the time period. He then went on to be one of the primary perpetrators, er creators of 3rd edition D&D. I’d kind of like to see what would have happened if this era’s Tweet had worked on Vampire.
